It beat out luxurious properties all over the world for the top honor.
The people have spoken — world travelers have deemed Viroth's Hotel in Cambodia the very best in the world, according to TripAdvisor's Travelers' Choice Awards.
The travel site released their 2018 hotel award-winners this week, and the small independent hotel in the heart of Siem Rep took the top spot, beating out spectacular hotels all over the world for the honor. TripAdvisor bestows the title based on data collected from user-submitted reviews and rankings.
Quirky and carefully styled, Viroth's Hotel follows in the best traditions of boutique hotels. Rooms are priced at an average of $128, placing it in a budget-friendly range rarely associated with award-winning luxury hotels. With just 35 rooms and suites, the property welcomes more guests than the related sister destination Viroth's Villas, but still focuses on giving each traveler exquisite service.
The hotel is designed with mid-century decor in mind — contemporary furniture with a 1950's aesthetic mingles with fastidiously selected antiques from the same era, and vintage Mercedes and Rolls Royce are parked in the driveway, ready to whisk travelers to the airport. The pristine swimming pool is lined by a colonnade of palm trees.
Guests also enjoy amenities like in-house spa treatments, fine dining in the restaurant or by the poolside, and a variety of special packages that arrange for visits to local archeological sites (including Angkor Wat temple) and into the surrounding mountains.
